Assistance Driving to Hamilton
Does anyone know if there is any form of assistance for people in Simcoe to get into Hamilton on a regular basis to attend medical appointments at St. Joe's hospital?
What is the approximate driving time to that hospital, and the easiest way to get there? I am not at all familiar with the Hamilton area, and feel completely lost heading in that direction.
May have to request that London be the source of medical services. Any info would be appreciated.

You can google the time and route on Google map. I know there are volunteer drivers in Simcoe to help with medical appointments, But where at this time I don't know. If you can't find out in a day or two I will do some research and find out for you. I'm sure some of the other folks here would know.

From Simcoe, Hamilton would be closer than London, undoubtedly. If the need for a driver is for you, gale, let me know.

Thanks all for your concern. It is unknown at this point if medical followup will be required. I'm trying not to cross bridges before I get there but want to be prepared as much as I can possibly be.

Re: Assistance Driving to Hamilton
hi gf.
when i have to get to st.joe's in hamilton,we go queensway east to javis, turn left onto #6,follow it into hamilton, then straight in to the city(continue in past the new #6 turn off before the mount hope turnoff),and continue in until the stone church road intersection, where we turn left,(a chrysler dealership is on the corner left side, with a timmies on the right side).then after turning left onto stone church road,go to 5th street, and turn right onto it,then follow it down the mountain,(james street mountain access) then atnear the bttom the hospital will be on your right side.(go to first light past the emergency entrance, and turn rght, that will take you to/past the parking area,on your right side, near the front door's).
it took my wife driving our van about 70 minutes to get there, back in late april,or early may this year, with no stops enroute, and no tickets (she drove the speed limit most of the time)
But i hope you don't have to go !

That's what I'm hoping also Growler! Thanks for your input. I am always nervous driving into unknown territory and now without my co-pilot/navigator I know it would be extremely difficult for me.

I will say one thing ... Without my GPS I would be a wreck. It's allowed me to go from being scared to drive to London ... To getting off a plane anywhere in Canada or the US and getting in a rental car and going. They are SUPER easy to use, and you can't get lost because it will continue to redirect you until you get where you've asked it to go. I can tell after every turn which way I'm turning next so I always know ahead of time which and to be in.
They are awesome!

but i think if you can get directions from someone,or read a map well, they should only be used as a back-up.
my daughter and her husband have one,as do's my bride.
but i can tell you they are not a very good judge of all eficent routes to travel.
friends used one to go to school in guelph, traveling from simce dailey.
i then suggested a different route to use,and when they tried it,they traveled 6 km further, but saved fuel, about 2 litres, and saved 55 minutes in time.
plus a multitude of stops, turns, and avoided a bunch of traffic.
the same for my family's trips.
a traveller with driving experience can(if they want) give better directions for a bunch of things!

Re: Assistance Driving to Hamilton
We always use google maps AND the GPS. Sometimes they match and sometimes not, but we still end up at our destination. (LOL and then there are the times when I say, "Turn right here" and hubby turns left. Even when the GPS agrees with me!!) And we still end up at our destination, although perhaps a bit longer in travel time.

Re: Assistance Driving to Hamilton
A GPS will not follow the same path coming and going. Used it to go to St. Jacobs, we went one way but coming home half the roads were different, but we made it and saw different country side
