What's for Dinner?
Tonight's dinner was pork tenderloin rubbed in a grainy mustard and then rolled in fine bread crumbs and herbs, baked in the oven for 40 min. Served with fig and walnut compote. Side dishes included parsley potatoes and good ole frozen peas (cooked of course!). Homemade apple pie for dessert. Yummy yummy if I do say so myself!

Re: What's for Dinner?
Semi-final homecooked dinner made last night - baked chicken breast coated in cracker crumbs, stuffing, pickled beets and french style green beans. The larder is almost empty - the freezer is except for one frozen entree, a few shrimp and two chicken burgers. From what some of the predictors of the coming storm are saying we may not even have electric power to do any cooking. Maybe better go out today and get some sandwich fixings.

Today's menu is beer can chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, cauliflower and carrots. Probably preceded by a few red wine or white wine spritzers.

Re: What's for Dinner?
Love beer can chicken! Last time I made it I used an organic beer and it wasn't quite as tasty. Perhaps it was my imagination.
Our freezer is low too GF. I want to be sure to use up everything and then just purchase what we absolutely need between now and Dec. 28th when we leave.
Next week I want to pick up the ingredients for Anna Olsen's Tarte Chocolat. I think I can taste it already.

Plug for Campbell's mushroom soup here. Pork chops, spiced and then coverd with 1/2 can Cream of mushroom soup done for about an hour in a fairly slow oven - along with the scalloped potatoes - that get the other half of the mushroom soup - as well as plenty of onion of course. Green beans - and that's it for tonight.

That sounds tasty observer. I haven't made it out to the store today - still recovering from my late, late flight south. Thankfully family left me emergency supplies for sandwiches so I think it will be a grilled ham and cheese for my dinner today. The first foray to the grocery store tomorrow will have a pretty hefty price tag I know!

Aaah! Sounds like you're not in this 1 degree Ontario weather any more gale force! Ham & cheese sounds wonderful - in the warmth! LOL

Glad to hear that you arrived safe and sound GF. Relax, sleep in. The grocery store will always be open. Hope the wine is at the top of your list, or whatever your drink of choice is. G&T's are tasty too!
The stocking up grocery bill is always the killer isn't it.

BTW, back on topic, I made cabbage rolls, parsley potatoes and a salad. I think we forgot to eat all the potatoes and the salad is woefully neglected. Love the cabbage rolls!

Re: What's for Dinner?
Went out yesterday and got groceries and some of the necessities like wine!!!It went very well with the pizza I had for dinner! After all the work of shopping to stock up on canned goods (that stop is at a store called Save-a-Lot) and fresh chicken/beef/pork at another store called Winn-Dixie. I think I picked up many of the buy one get one specials. I know it took me a long time to repackage everything into one or two people portions when I got home. Thats why I was too tired to cook and had pizza. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! LOL

Re: What's for Dinner?
And so you should GF! Besides, you don't have to set and example for anyone! Last Sunday we had a huge lunch, courtesy of my niece and her hubby. We both felt very full all afternoon and about seven, just had a bowl of popcorn. Sure wouldn't do that if our (little) kids were still at home.
