Permits for barn gatherings ?
it was suggested to council that peoplehaving others on their property (in the barn, storge buildings etc.) should be rquired to obtain a permit !
what do you think ?
this is my feelings on the subject, and i fwd'd it to the mayor !
Good morning Mr. Mayor,
Just a note about the suggestion that people get a permit for gathering as friends and having barn parties and such.
I think you should add to this common sense suggestion that when having people come into your home in groups of one or more that the police do background checks on the visitor and the person that resides on the property, no matter if they are family or friends, as well as having the local utility suppliers check the security of the components of the home, the fire department check that proper firefighting equipment is installed, and beyond the mentioned background checks, have the police do a sweep to insure that no weapons, pornographic material, goods acquired by criminal means and lie detector tests to ensure the residents or visitors do not have evil intentions.(like sex or gambling etc).
And permits should be required!
Also to show equality to the county’s residents council and members of the public should all be required to have permits for meetings, as well as merchants, hospitals, nursing homes, every structure expecting people to enter !
If someone comes to your door who does not live in your house you should be required to obtain a permit !
This would truly make things safer, and prevent unneeded police and fire calls !
As a bonus we could likely get a provincial and maybe even a federal grant for creating new employment as well as another level of bureaucracy to gov’t!
Norfolk could become a model of ingenuity!
People Canada wide would marvel at our intelligence level !
And I think councilor Chayni should be soundly punished for suggesting this is not a good plan.
Just my thoughts on this subject!
Thanks,
Bob Marcy
so who is right, councilor chayni or me ?
just trying to do my civic duty !

As I understood it, this direction is coming from the province - not the local council.
Just another example of how those in Toronto "understand" rural Ontario!

Similar to how driving 50kms over the limit on a Toronto street qualifies as "street racing" - while being the only vehicle on a deserted road in the country SHOULDN'T - but it does!
If it's good for Toronto - it must be good for the rest of Ontario!

Re: Permits for barn gatherings ?
How is this going to do anything but line more pockets with $$ who don't need it and add layers of red tape for those who don't have the $$? It is crazy. How many years, decades, centuries have social gatherings been held?
"This, even though for more than 200 years, people have been holding weddings, dances and other events in barns with no fatalities blamed no fire."
Really? Pretty much admits right there it is being done just for the money.
