John Graves Simcoe 1752-1806 - British soldier and statesman, born on this day at Cotterstock Northumberland England in 1752; died Oct. 26, 1806 in Exeter, Devonshire.

Adelaide Hunter Hoodless 1857-1910 - reformer, born on this day at St. George Ontario in 1857; died in Toronto Feb. 26 1910. Hoodless was founder of the world's first Woman's Institute, later the Federation of Women's Institutes of Canada (motto 'For Home and Country') which promoted pasteurization of milk as one of its main projects (her infant son died after drinking impure milk);
