What have you read lately?
Read "Sixth Man" by David Baldacci yesterday. A somewhat interesting premise interspersed in the fictional "mystery" novel - dealing with the lack of desire among American special agencies such as the CIA, FBI and the NSA - to share intelligence information.

While on holiday, I read 2 of Scott Turow's novels - "Innocent" and "Presumed Innocent". Both were excellent, if you like non-traditional mystery novels.

Read DB's First Family. Found it to be quite intriguing.
Waiting for my copy of Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult to arrive. Hubby found a great online purchase, less than half price (Chapters) and delivered!

Reading some old stuff-Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Tom Sawyer. Now into The Help, with How Dogs Think on deck.

Read the last two as well. Couldn't put down the Help until I was finished. I was 'out of commission' for a couple of days, just loving every word of it. The movie was equally as good.

Didn't read "The Help" - just saw the movie. Would be curious to know how much better the book might have been. Personally, I was not THAT impressed with the movie!

I agree...the movie was slow in some places but over all I enjoyed it. I like the words in the book, taking time to digest them and envision the scenes.

"How Dogs Think" - is about what the title sounds like it would be?

Been on a comic book kick lately. Started reading Iron Man from the beginning way back in 1963. Up to about 1995 right now.

I am a kid a heart, what can I say? I have a decent collection of comic books. I also have several hundred matchbox and hot wheels dinky cars some of which I had when I was 3 years old. I also have every piece of Lego I ever owned.

Read "Faith" by Len Deighton. I usually like Len Deighton - if you like spy stories. This one, I could have happily left out of my Len Deighton repertoire.
In the end, it seemed you just had to have "faith" in the ending.

Iris Johansen's Eve, Quinn, and Bonnie. Likely the last of the Eve Duncan series, which I enjoyed fully. A couple of the Michael Connelly books, Kathy Reichs and David Baldacci. When the company left I rejoined my friends - the books!!! Next wave comes in this weekend so I guess I'll be putting them away for awhile. I love to read as you probably can tell.

Re: What have you read lately?
I read Eve - but not the other 2 yet. Have also read a fair bit of Baldacci. Not sure I've read any Kathy Reichs. Are her books along the line of the other 3 authors you mentioned?

Re: What have you read lately?
If you watch the TV show "Bones", it is based on her books. There is a lot of technical information that my brain can't absorb, but I still enjoy the "bones" of her books. (pun intended!!), Yes, they do follow along the lines of the others. Every once in a while I will look for something to read that is a complete change of pace, and usually wind up with a tear jerker for some reason!

Re: What have you read lately?
Anyone who likes a bit of sci-fi might want to check out Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series. I'm rereading it now and loved all three books the first time around. Nothing like the original Frankenstein.....well the basis is I suppose....but there's so much more too! And it's modern day.....with a scientist who's essentially trying to create a perfect race of monsters, and end the human race......with a tad of humor, lol.

Re: What have you read lately?
I've read a fair bit of Dean Koontz - but not the Frankenstein series. Started on him because of his similarity, at one time, to Stephen King, at one time.
Most of the better writers, at least, tend to evolve; sometimes NOT for the better, if you particulary liked their original works.

So, tonight I read "Bonnie" - and somehow, I've got the feeling that I no longer need to read "Quinn" - as I suspect I read them in the wrong order!

Did J. D. Robb's "New York to Dallas" the other day. If you're a fan of J. D. Robb - it measured up.

I'm a fan! Will have to look for that one. I think I've read almost all of her "Death" series - might have missed one or two though....hard to keep track with the titles being so similar.

Finished "The Fund" by H.T. Narea - had never heard of him!
If you'd like to believe that terrorism is a thing of the past and that the whole financial crisis that happened in 2008 can't happen again - DON'T READ IT!
Often, these novelists present a "future picture" - or a "possible picture" that end up bearing a lot more resemblance to reality than we'd like to believe, I think.
