protesting at the bick's tank farm ?
the residents between delhi and vanessa are protesting a company that bought the BICK'S TANK FARM,saying it will stink, pollute the ground water, pollute, causing the spread of disease's?cause excess traffic on the road, and will just be a dump for toronto's garbage !
do they have a realistic problem ?
or is it just a NIMBY reaction ? (Not In My Back Yard)

Re: protesting at the bick's tank farm ?
well i'll tell all of you that haven't commented what my feelings are,and if these protesters can answer my questions,i'll support them come h### or high water !
but if they can't answer correctly, they won't get a split second of my tme,let alone my signature !
first, when the place where this tank farm now sit's was a farm that grew tobacco, did they complain about the chemical's used to help it grow ?(fertilizers, fumigants,(like the one that leaked out this past year?)or other sprays or ripening agents used?(if so,thats good for 1 point if not minus one, and so forth!)
did they complain about the health effects that crop caused ?(like cancer, etc. etc.) (if so another point or a minus)
did they complain, protest all of the excess traffic that the tobacco crops caused ? (to the sales barn, then to the processors, then to the manufacturers who used it) (another plus or minus)
did they complain,or question,or protest the rezoning of this farmland, when it was done ? (another +or-)
did they question, complain,or protest when the home that was their (plus barn, and other outbuildings) was knocked down and burnt, with the remains being buried, and the trees stripped off and disposed of like the buildings were ? (+or-)
did they question the structure or quality of the tanks when being buried/installed in that place ? (+or-)
did they question the chemicals being used to put the cucumbers in when being stored,or processed,or ask what was being done with the unused plant matter that was put not in the tanks ? (+or-)
do they have evidence,or proof these tanks did or didn't leak when being used by bick's or that they may or may not leak when used by trade 360 ? (+or-)
did they question the extra traffic caused when bringing in or taking out the chemical's and/or cucumbers ? (+or-)
did they try or question smuckers about moving bick's out of canada when it was first suggested,or did they contact their MP or MPP,or anyone on council about trying to have them stay here and retain their employee's ?(+or-)
do they complain, question,or protest when farmers not only locally but province wide use sewage lagoon material on field's as fertilizers,as it is mainly fecal matter which can spread a host of disease's and easily pollute sources of drinking water, including the big creek tributary's they claim to be concerned with ? (+or-)
did they complain, question or protest when a nearby farmer built a large barn designed to raise chickens, that anyone driving by can smell ? (+or-)
as the people that want to build this plan on using the remainder of the material after composting for enrichiching the soil,by packaging it and selling it via public outlets,do they think t will just be left in place rather than being sold (a source of income)? (+or-)
did they request the MOE or anyone else to monitor the site when being used by bick's? (+or-)
as the MOE will insist on site monitering controls be put in place including well in case of leakage, air monitering equipment to check for not only odours, but leaking methane (very flamable) gasses, and MOT checks on trucks coming and going from the site,do they really feel these people will risk extremly large penalties by trying to circumvent the laws ? (+or-)
and as trade 360 advised council and basicly everyone that was/is interested of their intentions several months before the place was sold (finalized) did they try to get anyone else interested in buying the land,or try forming a co-op or group to purchase the land so as to avoid anyone being able to create this plant ?(+or-)
or is it just a group of NIMBY's (+or-)
now if the plus side isn't under 75% of the points they have got my support, otherwise guess what ?

Re: protesting at the bick's tank farm ?
Most people fear change.
Not this is an equal example to the Bicks situation, but here in FL there is serious talk of the postal system going to a five day delivery plan, rather than the current six. All kinds of protests about pension cheques not arriving, communication limited, rural residents feeling more isolated etc.
I remember having six day mail delivery in ON and now that it's five, it's fine. Actually, with the technology age, we hardly have any mail most of the time.
Change is tough, espcecially if you fear that the unknown could affect your health, as say the protesters of the Bicks place.
I am neither for or against the protesting.

Kishgo, getting mail eletcronically is what is kiling the post Office. Their bread and butter is first class mail. Less being sent, less income, same amount of people, a recipe for trouble.

i absolutely agree Slowfood. It's not just a US problem, but everywhere. The majority of our mail we consider just advertising/junk mail. But again, the times are a changing and so we must as well.
