Two coats of paint on five doors and frames. One more to go. Now I remember why I hate painting.....

Re: And We're Off!
We have decided to rename a raccoon to Houdini. I KNOW I heard him behind the cottage (as did our dog), heard the sound of his feet on the metal floor of the live trap, HEARD the door close behind him as well as a bit of struggling to get out. Closed my window then.
But this morning, the sardines are gone, the trap door is down and the cage is empty! What gives?????

Houdini likely studied up on the workings of the cage while you were out trying to outsmart the pickeral !

Re: And We're Off!
Our dog, Riley has discovered the marsh/swamp area at the back of our property. We found him there not once, not twice but THREE times, watching the tadpoles or whatever was in the water. When he gets out, he is literally covered in mud and each time, I gently drop him into the lake so he has to swim back to land ( about three feet) to wash off the mud. Is he a dog or a little boy?????

i think houdini was a man in real life but the one you relocated was a girl !
cause i know where you left HER !
just out in front of nhnh !
after they got me in my chair today,i looked out my window and right there in the hollow hole in the tree sat mrs.HOUDINI. with between 3 and 5 offspring around her !
so now i'm gonna have to get someone to catch them to make me some hats!

LOL you found me out growler. I can capture them for you, just for the price of gas to arrive in Simcoe, oh...and accommodation, oh, yes three meals a day and the cost of the traps!

Re: And We're Off!
FORTUNATELY - ob in Delhi hasn't had any raccoon issues! (Don't know why - but I'm not pushing it!) - Skunks, on occasion, yes! And, the occasional dead cat that has chosen to die over the winter under our deck!

Re: And We're Off!
Now you need to go get some bear repellent!! i watched an episode on HGTV last night and the same problem was focused on. The lady went and got some repellent, but unfortunately you have to use it within 20 feet. Don't think I'd want to be that close!!

Re: And We're Off!
about the bear?
wasn't one reported south of or near woodstock about 2-4 years ago ?
if so as that is oxford, it's right next door to norfolk !
and they say not coming to norfolk ?
what if he can't tell which direction is north,he might get going south.

Re: And We're Off!
LOL @ retired.
At 1:15 AM, I heard a noise from the side of the cottage, immediately thinking I had captured another raccoon. However, when I heard a 'heavy footed' sound and the resin storage container being moved, I got up and looked out the window. There was a huge bear, standing on his back feet, at least six feet tall and over 300 pounds. I got hubby out of bed right away but he is so slow in waking from a deep sleep. We turned on the lights and our fearless proctector (our dog Riley) was quite verbal in his response. The bear ran off into the woods. I was beyond petrified! Hubby went back to bed and I went online to our island neighbours (all still in the city). A few minutes later I returned to bed. My bed is about three feet from the patio door onto the deck that surrounds the cottage. Sure enough, I heard that shuffling of the feet again, got up and went around to the great room to look out the side window. I didn't have to look far. There was the bear with it's two front paws and nose pressed up against the window looking in!! (The prints remain there still.) Again, got hubby up who was already in his deep sleep. The bear left the window area only to move to the front door area to climb up the trees immediately in front. However, he quickly realized that he was too big for the tree , dropped to the ground and ran off. By now I was beyond petrified but not hysterical. Back online, hubby and dog back to bed.
Today we spoke with the other islanders. One couple has been here for twenty one years and never ever have seen a bear. I was so worried about all the kids that would be here. However, as I type, all are safely snug in their beds. Great day, great weather, great friends and another story to share.
Needless to say, no open door in our house!!!!

Re: And We're Off!
It was Observer. I've never been so close to a bear. So glad to have a house between us! I was amazed at the size and strength of it. We think he moved back onto the mainland for food. (At least that's the comfort I give myself!)

Talk about the most perfect weekend! We entertained from 10 to 27 people. My house is a mess, my body is tired but my heart is bursting with happiness. Does life get any better????
