Re: And We're Off!
Well, I guess our sense of 'fun' is weird. We really enjoy all the 'work' that we do! Every day we have small projects. Today we reassembled the top our six foot lighthouse. Hubby built it last year to house our water pump, electrical outlets for the dock. Because we were concerned of falling branches and debris over the winter (breaking the glass/rails etc) we took off the top portion in three sections for winter storage.
Also, put fencing around many of our trees. The beavers are getting aggressive.
Then there's all the 'regular stuff' like dusting, vac and washing the floors. That took a whole hour!!!!! Burning day as well. (Garbage collection is non existant.) We take our recyclables to the marina once a week.
And oh, the best part of the day...HAD to turn all five cases of wine bottles on their side! Someone had to volunteer to test one variety, so, ummm, I stepped up and volunteer. So good of me! (Then I had to have a nap.)
There was a brief thunderstorm today. Our dog hates them and he shook for an hour. Poor baby. Storms have never bothered him until last year when the lightning and thunder were simultaneous at the end of our dock. Scared everyone here!
Tomorrow we want to organize the supplies and materials for a bathroom floor installation on Friday. The floor area is 5 x 5, a really small bathroom. Hubby put in a new shower arm so I can manage better, new taps in the sink and new lights. The dreaded part is removing the toilet. I am soooo afraid that it might break or something. There is no other toilet in the cottage!!
Our company starts arriving mid June. Every weekend is busy from then until about Labour Day Weekend. All fun!!!

Re: And We're Off!
I understand what you're saying about the "accomplishment" feeling of doing all that work.
Sometimes, I feel as though I've been doing all that "extra work" for so many years, that I start to wonder if it's all worth it - and yet, I agree - it gives satisfaction - and its own form of pleasure down the road.
And, I sincerely hope that all the wine that was tested was worthy!

Re: And We're Off!
I can't begin to tell you how excited I was about our bathroom reno. New tiles from England that appear to be freshly blown bubbles on an ocean of blue, a shower curtain that appears to be 'raining', new faucets to replace the corroded set.
And so the Nightmare began.
Ordered three shower curtains which have been discontinued so even lost the original store set!
Then the dilemna of how to install the floor tiles. We decided ( much thanks to your suggestions) to put down new plywood subflooring. Then started the installation of the floor tiles. How long can it take to lay a five by five floor????? All day apparently and we are only half finished. Nightmare!!!!
By four o'clock, we decided to call it quits. Boated over to the mainland to pick up our mail, had dinner, visited with a friend.
Fresh start tomorrow. Oh....did I mention that our toilet is STILL on the deck???? Fun and games!!!

Re: And We're Off!
Just to make you feel a LITTLE better kishgo - we started our ensuite reno the first of April - and MAYBE tomorrow - the first of the tile work might get underway. Wait a minute - did I say tile? - no it would be "drywalling" the shower to get it ready for tiling - (not actually drywall of course, but can't remember the name of the material)
But OK - there IS a shower in the basement! And there IS another main floor toilet & sink. .... But ..... still .....

Re: And We're Off!
Kudos to you Observer for you patience. I would go craaaazy! In our household, when one room is disrupted, so is the entire house.
The tile adhesive was terrible to deal with. The glue just seemed to be everywhere even though I thought we were so careful. We've tiled before but it has never been this bad.
Drywalling I've never done. (And it's NOt on my bucket list either!!) Good for you!

Re: And We're Off!
This is our "artisan" that we work with - never know when he's actually going to show up. Was supposed to come at 1 today. Called to say he'd be a couple hours late. By 5 he wasn't here. Called him and told him to take the night off and relax. He SHOULD be here tomorrow.
BUT - he's SO talented - that we work with him sometimes till 2 in the morning to get it done. He's 65+ - still has a "day job" and I think we're about the only "private" people he still does stuff for. (After 20-30 yrs. since the first job)
So, I just don't dust - and have an excuse! LOL

Re: And We're Off!
Yesterday our third and final dock extension arrived and we were able to put in numbers two and three. Those with this experience will know how difficult or easy this can be. It's heavy lifting and lugging and then when you get the frames into the water, huge styrofoam billets are put under the ends so all you have to do is hook up the extensions as well as level them. One us in this relationship is a stickler for everything for the bubble in the centre of the level. Guess you know it's not me. But fortunately, the leveling was the easiest part.
So the east extension (36 feet long) is finished. Hurray! Now to complete putting the dock lights around it and the dock is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: And We're Off!
That sense of accomplishment has to be worth all the hassle you've been going through Kishgo. Congratulations! I'm sure the "bathroom job" will work out just as well. Hang in there.

Re: And We're Off!
I always feel just as great when someone else does the work! I'm going to attempt two more rows of bathroom tile while my hubby is helping a neighbour with his dock, only 24 feet long so much easier.
Then the painting begins, all my job. And THEN it will be finished! Not so sure if I want to tackle my bedroom for a while.
Thanks for your words of encouragement GF.

Re: And We're Off!
The bathroom continues to be an eyesore. No more work has been done. I had to assist with the dock yesterday and to tell the truth, neither one of us wanted to work on it. Maybe later on in the week.
I left out a bag of garbage with used tin foil in it, nothing else regarding food. Last night our dog went crazy twice during the night and sure enough, our garbage was torn open. The bait is set in the trap tonight. Sigh, I thought we were done.

Re: And We're Off!
Good luck with trapping some more of your little friends!
WE are actually progressing just a bit with OUR bathroom. Tile man came yesterday - 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. The sacrifices one makes for quality!

Re: And We're Off!
kis? if you can build a long dock that don't sink, why not build a floating island, that had a low enough spot for the headware supplying critters climb aboard and trap them there so they couldn't get to the feed barrel (garbage)? ?

Re: And We're Off!
What a quick and terrible storm we just experienced. Within minutes, literally a few, the wind speed hit 65 km per hour, some rain and I swear, some small hail. The pontoon boat hit the dock hard enough to put in another dent. (We can push it out, as we've done several times before.)
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!
