Hope your day went well, slowfood. A somewhat dreary kind of morning - but maybe that got more people out of the house cause they couldn't do anything outside anyway!

BTW - obviously you are in some way involved with Camp Trillium. Why don't you tell us about it - because I'd bet not everyone on here knows about its history and/or its present function.

Not so involved now. Here is an extremely compact version.
Firstly, what is it?
It is a way for children with active cancers under treatment to have a summer camp experience.
Cabins, campfires,canoeing,hiking,swimming,hiking.
There is medical staff on site to look after the campers and chemotherapy can be performed there as well. All staff stay on site for the summer.
There are many many activities for the campers. No matter what the camper's ability there is a program.
I started at the original camp on an island near Picton. Many midnight rides out in the camp boat(it can carry an ambulance). We put up buildings, additions and performed repairs on work weekends. It is a summer only camp.
There was thought about a year round camp. Wayne McDonald of Waterford had an idea. The Waterford Conservation Area was closed. Could it be used?
A deal was signed to rent, we surveyed it one Good Friday long ago, cleared land and the rest is history.
Cabins for campers, dining room , activity hall, offices, residences, councillor's quarters , "Body Shop" (medical building) were all built , mainly with volunteer labour. Lion's Clubs international and local Lion's and Lioness Clubs were instrumental in making Rainbow Lake happen.

He and my wife died within 2 weeks of each other. They kept each other up to date on the progress etc. of their respective cancers.
I spent a lot of time with him while he was ill ,on the Lighthouse Theatre Board and helping in any way I could getting Rainbow Lake going.
