Got a favourite recipe?
Beef barley soup. Stuffed back ribs. Both sound interesting, but I've never made them. Care to share the how-to?
Beef shank stew, I'll explain.
3 or 4 beef shanks - cover with water in large pot. Float 2-3 bay leaves, 5-6 whole allspice, a carrot, celery stalk & an onion (all whole, as they are for flavor only). Simmer 4-6 hours until falling off bone. Remove, cool a bit, and then separate the bone and the skin and return the meat to liquid. Add Beef Bovril liquid to taste - then add potatos and any other veggie you might like (I usually just do potato - and have veggies separate). When potatos are done, thicken with corn starch to create gravy - and it's the MOST TENDER beef stew ever.

Been cooking this all night, not sure if I'm going to add more liquid for soup, or thicken for stew.

When I get bored I make BQ sauce from scratch, give most of it away ,everyone thinks its awesome, or they just might being polite.
So just for the heck of it , I entered some at the local fair.

Re: Got a favourite recipe?
I'm sorry to say Observer, that most of my recipes I was taught by my mother, grandmother and sister-in-law. All of these ladies never ever threw away leftover food. For example, the beef barley soup contains freshly cooked barley, but the rest of the contents could be anything. Presently in my fridge I have some leftover beef gravy - that goes in; leftover barb-q beef strips - that goes in; canned tomatoes - that goes in: maybe some carrots, a potato a for sure some onion along with beef stock for the liquid. The stuffed ribs will have leftover stuffing from a roast chicken sandwiched between two servings of three pork ribs (the rib side and then tied together) rubbed with barb-q seasoning and roasted. As long as the oven is on I'll bake a lemon pudding using up a couple of lemons that have been sitting around a little too long, and roast a sweet potato also. Dinner today, lunch tomorrow and another day too. I seldom cook just one meal at a time, isn't that what microwaves were invented for? LOL
