Re: Cottage Time
Please don't say I have to pay more tax!! Just made a visit to the bank to pay an additional amount today!!
Thanks for posting that proposal R2. If and when this is enacted, I'll probably be unable to travel!! LOL

Re: Cottage Time
I was not really worried about taxes. We all pay too much of those. I was thinking of all the businesses up here that lose out. The day to day things like groceries and such. Add up how much money is not being spent here to keep people working.
Re: Cottage Time
The Ontario health coverage and the proposed eight month stay in FL do not jive yet. Perhaps it will work out in the future. For a four month stay, I only paid an additional $100 in addition to the 62 days I have with my CDN insuring health coverage company. Thankfully, I'm in great health. But hubby had to pay $700 for the four months.
FL LOVES CDNs. We are an integral part of their economy and treat us with great respect and good will. I love it. Customer service is beyond anything I've ever experienced in ON. (Well, except for Dillards, which would equate to The Bay's customer service.)
My hubby and I are very modest people I believe. We don't flaunt our citizenship nor mention it out right but honestly, our 'accent' gives us away and we are treated like royalty, where it be in a restaurant or store. Of course they are looking for our dollars but with the fantastic prices, great service, I don't mind spending my dollars there.

Re: Cottage Time
when still working,i spent 60% of my time in the us,in many different places and have very few story's of rude hard to please people in theus. and actually made many good friends and had many complimentary things said to and about me and my work.
i had very very few troubles colllecting or disagreements about collecting my revenue from them even
had far more problems with our fellow canadians than americans.
and found most people i spoke with very nice!
not like some jealous husbands i see around here!

Re: Cottage Time
Does the stormy weather ever cease? My heart goes out to the residents of Oklahoma as they continue to be battered by high winds and rain. We've had our share here as well. I knew we would have some thunder as our dog quivers about six hours prior to the actual event. A great weather dog!!

LOL RT. I never ever imagined retirement being so much fun. All thanks to a very wise hubby who knows how to make every penny work. I am so blessed. (But really, I say to my hubby....EVERY penny?)
I resisted the FL move a lot. I felt we should be 'saving' not 'spending' so that one day, we will not have to worry about our old age. He says we are already there and to enjoy it while we can. He promised I won't have to go to the Food Cupboard when I'm 90! 90! Such a goal!

Re: Cottage Time
Yet another cool , wet and windy day. We don't even have our dock extensions in the water yet. Not that we haven't tried but we've run into a bit of a snag. We can only work out there when the weather is better and the water warmer.
Black clouds hang above us. The whitecaps are dancing. Small twigs are flying. Good day to read a book!

Re: Cottage Time
At least there's no rain today but oh, the winds are very cool and high. No way could we boat out this afternoon. The lake is very quiet. The water levels are very high and Mother Nature is not to blame for this. Within a couple of days, the levels were noticeably increased. We've had to move our pontoon boat to the back bay area. Yesterday, the floor /overhang of the boat was sitting ON the dock. Not good.
This IS June isn't it?? Feels like March.

Going to be a coool summer. Also did you notice that if you stay extra long in the USA you will now have to pay US taxes as well as Canadian. Easy cone easy go I guess

Re: Cottage Time
Retired, we have looked extensively at this issue. CDNs who spend a lot of time in the US need to fill out a Closer Connection form which clearly shows/states that you are a visitor in the US, no US income and remain a CDN citizen paying taxes.
The 'Climatologist ' on tv said that although our summer will be cooler than the last two years, it will be a summer with more normal temps. Hurray! A couple of time when the temps were in the high 30's, it wasn't fun without a/c, but doable in our situation.

Re: Cottage Time
What an incredibly beautiful and SUNNY day! This is the nicest day in a month I'd say. I cut the lawn, weeded the garden and read my book on the dock with music and wine. The lawn took me three hours. Three! A far cry from the usual 10 min in the city. I swear I work harder here than anywhere. But that's okay. I still feel like I'm in Paradise.

Re: Cottage Time
Oh, I`m here every once in a while. Lots of changes going on in our lives at the moment. Internet access is not always available, depending on where we are. I kind of feel like a vagabond.
And, retired, that would be Buckhorn Lake, land of lots of wind and rain. Rain. More rain. Did I mention we have plenty of rain lately.....
