all this talk about generating electricity,and now some more !

.when people get talking about making electricity,some say wind,some say waste (composting or burning) some say coal,some say biomass,some say solar,then as we have pretty much used up all of the riers etc. they then say nuclear,but none of that group worry about the cost of nuclear waste.

but now the feds have seen the cost of the small reactor at chalk rivers cost go from $3.6 billion last yearto $6 billion this year,maybe some will start finding out how much each nuke making hydro wwill cost ?

i think it will be more than it has made over it's life time,but let them figure it out!

So pretty much every conceivable way of producing electricity is either harmful to the environment, expensive, or a combination of both. Now what?

i think well just have to get used to rawmeat,you need heat for cooking,and wood burning causes pollution,and living in dark caves!
the caves are easy,as in florida they grow them,but they call them sinkholes! and we'll be able to sleep more with no electricty,or other light at night (pollution will get us with candles,lanterns,or sticks burning!).
but life will be bettr as we won't be using money for anything but bows n' arrows to kill the people with food !

The Chalk River Reactor is not a power reactor. It is used to make radioactive isotopes used for medical testing and for industry. A very very lucrative business. We were , worldwide the number one source for these.
There are a lot of nuclear power plants on the books in the USA and Britain right now.

yeah but chalk river is going to cost mega-bucks to shut down (retire) and that means the big electrical units will cost even more!
i think someone sorta figured that out and thats why they sold the candu design off ?
they say it was for other reasons,but they were under the control of the politicians,so you could never be sure ?
i know down in tennesee,at oak ridge,one of the original nuclear sites they are paranoid about the nuclear waste.
they bring it there from all over the eastern us,in trucks that only can haul about 500 lbs.of it per trip,and if you ever see one on the road,be very good,because there are a lot of people nearby with guns !
some even above you in heliocopters and aircraft !
