Rarest Automobile
This is the car that in 1954 could have "killed" the Corvette. So Chevrolet, being GM's big sales and profit division, campaigned to GM to "kill" this car. When Chevy was introducing its 6-cyl. sports car with its 2-speed "Power Glide" transmission and side curtains, here was a sports car from Olds with a big V-8 and power windows. So GM said no to Oldsmobile on building this car. The world's rarest automobile a 1954 Concept Old's Rocket F88 - the only one in existence.
In 1954 the F-88 was a Motorama Dream Car, and was one of only two, or an unconfirmed possible three, ever created.
After spending decades as a collection of parts stuffed into wooden crates, the F-88 was reassembled. The F-88 seen here is literally the only car left of its kind, and was sold to John and Maureen Hendricks at the prestigious Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, for $3,240,000.
This acquisition made automotive history and is in the cornerstone of the Gateway Colorado Automobile Museum, in its own special room in a rotating display worthy of the F-88!

Re: Rarest Automobile
That is without a doubt one freaking awesome looking automobile. And the gold colour suits it to a T. Build that today exactly as is and I bet you could sell a ton of them.

Re: Rarest Automobile
they did build a car somewhat like it in 05,06,07, or near them years. it was sold as a chevy, and as a saturn.
it had a 4cyl,or a v6 with a 4 spd auto or a 5 spd manual, but due to low demand it was dropped !
several were modified in calif.,and mich.,by private builders(?) to use the gen.3vortec v8's (it is said gm gave them technical advice and some $ to try to build up the market for them, like they did with yenko back in the late 60's)
i told my wife she is lucky i had my stroke when i did,or i'd own one of them !
and the 57-59 chevy is nice, but i liked the 56 better !
