Franzi has access to a mirror at her face level. She knows who it is in the mirror. When we put on her new collar she tried to see it by tilting her head and couldn't. Then she went to the mirror and was able to see it.
Since she knows what she looks like, she seeks out dogs like herself when out.
She does have the poodle (its not fur its wool) trait of no pet dander. So hypo allergenic. Very low shedding. Great demeanor and pretty intelligent.
A great dog.

I get confused about whether or not dogs have fur, wool, hair. How is the difference determined? I've been told our Riley has three types of hair/fur, not sure what it's called. He has the guard, the down and the regular? Hair? Fur?

PS Riley is in my avatar, sitting beside our cement goose. Every time I put a new 'outfit' on the goose, he goes over to it's nose and sniffs it. I dress the goose according to season/holiday. A regular jogger stopped one day to tell us that the goose is her 'marker' in her jogging regime. She looks for the new outfits all the time.

Heathcliffe - our spirited male cat of long ago:
They CAN be such intelligent animals!
Heathcliffe regularly wanted to be let out in the middle of the night. He would meow at the bedside - and if that didn't work, he would get up on the bed and meow. My husband's reaction was always a swift swat. So, the cat learned not to meow anymore. He would get up on the bed and walk on ME (I didn't swat). If that didn't accomplish his desire, he would come up to my face and swat my nose. If I still didn't give him what he wanted, he would extend his claws just a little bit as he swatted - until eventually - he got his wish!

Beautiful cat Observer. Our pets may not speak English but they certainly get their point across! Funny story.

Re: What (or who) is your pet?
This creature used to be like a pet at Turkey Point - until one year it was decided that he posed too much of a threat to sea-dooers!
The male swan obviously saw seadoos - somewhat similarly shaped to a large water bird - as a threat to his territory. He would "escort" them out of the channel, puffing himself up as he did so to look more menacing. As long as the seadooer kept his speed intact, the swan would just follow. Sometimes, though, the seadooer would panic and speed up. THEN, the swan would begin to launch himself into the air! The "whoosh whoosh" of those powerful wings must have been terrifying as he swooped over the machine and its rider!

Re: What (or who) is your pet?
Another little animal story.
Holly used to scratch at the kitchen door to be let in. My husband used to open the door and swat her - for scratching up the door frame. She learned not to come in! She would still scratch - but associated the swat with coming through the door - NOT with doing the scratching!
A slow learner - my husband! LOL
