Winter Plans Empty Winter Plans

Post by kishgo Thu Oct 18, 2012 7:28 pm

This winter is forecasted to be long and cold with lots of snow. Great for those who love the winter season/sports who were greatly deprived last year!

Do you have any special plans?

No plans YET! But will continue to check out the possibilities!
Winter is too long and too cold not to do SOMETHING!

Saw a "predicition" in Friday's Star that southern Ontario should be having a snowy winter this year - partially lake effect cuae presumably the lakes are warmer than normal.

Where do you want to cruise, retired? - or just anywhere where it's not snowing?

Sounds like a good one, retired!

I'm keeping an eye out for a Holland America cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore - Jan or Feb.

Our friends leave for Japan in less than a week. One of their sons and his wife and two kiddies live there. Our friends always say it's great to visit the family (go once a year) but it's very nice to return home too. Their grandchildren speak fluent Japanese and English.

Can't say if it's right or wrong - but some of the most interesting trips have been to South America areas - and the Mediterranean countries.

Nothing much "untoward" happening in that part of the east for a while - since the end of the Viet Nam war - and this itinerary would include Viet Nam and Thailand among others.

We were fortunate to have hit Athens and Cairo - and a couple of locations in Turkey before the present upheavals. Wouldn't think of going there NOW, however!

I'm taking your comment about "keeping an eye out for a Holland America cruise" to mean that you enjoy travelling with them. Hubby and I sailed with five different lines, but kept returning to Holland America because of their high standards.

Retired2, that line used to have a cruise from the west coast to Hawaii, thru a couple of the islands and then back that always interested me greatly. The only drawback, for me anyway, were the days spent sailing across the ocean! I like cruising but I want to be a little closer to land than that!

a guy from woodstock, originally had a nice boat (small ship?) built on the west coast and when it was about 11/2 yrs old took it to hawaii and back, had a fantastic time except for about 3 days in a hurricane sorta tropical storm(?) and said it was a blast! seen a bit of video of the trip and have enveyed him ever since.
but except for that,i'm with you there gf,i'd rather be near or on land !

We have travelled with Celebrity and enjoyed every second of the vogage. Tried Norwegian and would never do it again. Not one good thing to say about them including their non acknowledgement of my letter to them.

I'm taking our boys south in a few weeks, and then will be going south again first 1/2 of February sometime. One week all inclusive vacations in the sunny south.

I would like to travel a bit further, but it's difficult for me to get away from work for more than one week at a time - but I would like a nice 2 week opportunity to go to Asia or Europe again. That might ave to be in my retirement plans.

Ruby - it's not particularly the cruise line - but the itinerary that I usually choose. I will admit Holland America has always been good to cruise with - but then, Norwegian has always been fine by me too, as has C??? (not Celebrity - the other "C" - just can't think of it now! LOL)
Our first cruise was many years ago with Costa - which, at the time, I thought was great! I guess the Costa name conjures up a bit too much of "shipwrecking" at the moment!

The other "C" is Carnival, BTW!

Going to Cuba with my family in November, and then south again in February with just the old man Smile. Actually, it's no big deal taking the kids now, as they are old enough to manage a week in their own room.

I would love to go back to Europe, or to go to Asia(never been there), but it's very difficult to get away from work for more than one week. Have to put that in the retirement plans.

Have only had 2 small touches of Asia - Egypt (I guess that's actually Africa) - and A bit of Turkey. I think the farther east would be very interesting. Not sure I would ever want to tackle going to India though!

No Carnival Cruise this winter, maybe next. Sticking with them though, loved the cruises we were on,great food and fun. Can't see paying twice as much and entertaining a higher risk of sailing with stuffed shirts. We love the "Walmart" of the seas.
This year though a few comp nights at Seneca Niagara and a couple at Seneca Allegheny.Low key.

Hey slowfood - didn't know that Carnival was known as the Wal-Mart of the seas! Interesting!
