Should cats be kept indoors all the time?

My grandson's first cat was attacked and killed by a dog - outdoors obviously.

They now have a new kitten - and are insisting on it being an indoor animal only. I can understand not wanting to go through the trauma of that kind of loss again - but still, I feel badly for that animal as it looks through the screen of the patio door - and looks to ME, at least, that it would love to be out there!

Any opinions?

I have a cat he will be 5 in May . We met at the Simcoe humane society and he is a indoor cat no people food no can food no milk . He healthy no fat on him and has a very out going personality and any one that meets him thinks he is a awesome cat and would baby sit him in a heart beat. I have seen other indoor cats that look very content.

I guess, just like people, cats don't miss what they've never had???

We had 2 cats that stay in one lived 14 years the other 20 years.They where very happy.Before them we let a cat go out he got hit by a car

thought it was hilarious, so i've said that kind of stuff ever since !
i no longer have a cat,but the last one i had (a long haired manx) lived a bit over 13 years!
she was a family pet,who i loved !
but i still have a sense of humor about things,why don't you ?
