Education can often be a different thing than schooling, I think. Just as being spiritual can be a different thing than being religious.

There are so many ways to become "educated" don't you think? The education of the "school of hard knocks". The observation of people and occurrences and situations. Reading the newspaper - or the internet version thereof. LISTENING to people.
My mother was born in 1898 - and went to school - formal education - until she was about 15, I think. She was a very "educated" woman. She knew history and current events - and understood people. She knew cooking and biology (through experience more than books) and never stopped learning till she died at 95.
The unfortunate part for today's younger people is that they need the certification of an institute of "higher learning" to get their foot into the door to get any kind of a job - regardless of how well "educated" they might be in the real world.

Re: quote for wed.s
well i quit ddss in gr.10, and went to work (7 days before turning 15 yrs) and worked away at various things until i was 20 then started driving truck.
but i can't recall what made me, but i took a proficency(or aptitude,or a different name maybe?) test when i was about 30,given by fanshawe, in london !
they didn't want any education to be stated prior to the test ?
and they had about 15 of us take this 4 hour test, then we left, and were told to return for the results another time !
so after a week or two i returned and met with a counsellor or maybe a teacher and they said i should think about continueing my college education,as i needed to follow through on a different study path as the course's
or the subjects i had taken were not suited to the career path i should be following ? ?
so at about that point i quit listening until they got to the functional level i was at, and then he said with my results being what they were it was obvious that i was a high school graduate with about two years of college or some other training from an educational institution ?
so i never thought about it for a quite a long time afterward until i met and became freinds with a business man who upon hearing i had been a dropout was shocked saying he knew a lot of college taught and trained people who were Educated but knew far less than me !
so i now question educational standards, preferring common sense things !
