Public health nurses on strike
Any input on this?
Justified? Not justified?

One side of the story - that I've heard - is that the non-unionized management received a 2.5% raise - and the nurses were being asked to accept .5%.
If THAT is factual - that doesn't sound right!

Strike settled.
Was this a justified grievance? - or a means for the union to show the rest of the province that they had to toe the line with union?

Re: Public health nurses on strike
sorry ob !
i missed your original post i think ?
but it turned out the management got a 1% increase last year, and the nurses had been offered 1.5% for last year, and almost exactly what they had been offered prior to the strike, and what they did settle on,but didn't like the request by the health unit that they be allowed "in the future" to hire rna's for some work assignments !
as they are (licenced and qualified)not rn's and didn't have the proper education to work for the health unit !

Re: Public health nurses on strike
It may have been justified.....it may not have been. They really didn't release many details. I personally felt that if additions to their pay was coming from the pockets of taxpayers.....justified or not.......it just isn't there to give them. You can get blood from a stone......and soooo many people are struggling right now......many deserving more than they actually make. Most people just can't afford it right now. I generally think nurses deserve to make a comfortable living.....but right now making their living more comfortable would only be at the cost of many of those less fortunate. JMO.

My wife and I get by on less than one of those nurses makes so as far as I am concerned with the way the economy is they are already making too much.
