It is cool. By the way any idea why the smelt don't come near the shore to spawn any more like in the 50s and 60s.

No idea but they are spawning out in 30-50 ft of water .

they were still coming in in the early 80s, as in 1980,the last time i went to the point for smelt.(turkey) was just the day ortwo before i came down with hepatitus !
there was a guy there taking hanfuls out of our net, and eating them live !
made me feel ill !
then i got sick !

Remember that the smelts where accidentally released into Lake Michigan back in the 20,s or 30,s . They were being rasied in small lakes for trout food And they migrated through the whole Great Lakes basin . Lake Erie being the only lake were the population grew to sustain a Commercial fish industry They are a ocean fish , so they are adapting all the time .
