Apple ‘Stupid Phones’ Outsell Smart Phones for First Time

CUPERTINO, CA — You can’t take selfies with it. You can’t check Facebook or Pinterest. No texting. You can’t even Google what happened last night on Game of Thrones.

All you can do is talk.

It’s Apple’s iDial, a phone that’s just that.

A phone.

And since its launch in March, the iDial ($29.95) is outselling iPhones (from $729) nearly 2-to-1.

“Actually talking to another real person is the hottest new trend,” Apple CEO Tim Cook told the San Francisco Chronicle today following the release of the booming iDial sales figures.

“People are actually saying LOL now instead of thumbing it onto a keypad.”

Wired Magazine called the iDial the “breakthrough product of the future” and reported that tracking numbers show the simple, rotary-dial phone has become a “must-have” with the all-important 18-24 year old market and among seniors living in assisted-living facilities.

“But iDial is also trending hot with upscale users since Kanye West was spotted with one in his hand as he bitch-slapped a paparazzi outside a New York club,” said Wired’s reporter Gary “Giga” Stream.

“iDial is so simple that it’s stupid.”

Apple admits they were initially concerned about possible confusion among younger users who have never seen a rotary dial before but Cook says they have adapted quickly and have figured out how to use a finger rather than their thumb to place calls.

“Talking was becoming something you only did at a McDonalds drive-thru,” said Cook.

“There’s a whole generation that has never heard the voices of their friends.”

“iDial is all the talk.”

“TTYL,” said Cook before hanging up his iDial at the end of the Chronicle phone interview.
