I'm not much of a thread starter, more of a reader with occasional reply. Also had a fair amount of stuff going on thus have been otherwise occupied. Will try to light a fire on the forum and get things going. Oh wait, fire, smoke...........

Growler..I read everything you say and comment on it when I have something worth saying..I enjoy reading your posts...Keep em coming...Now Ill make a complaint about the complaint department...(kinda defeats the purpose I know),but I honeslty dont see the need for it..seems to me people should be allowed to complain or vent occasionally..and this seems like the place to do it as far as I'm concerned..also by having a separate 'complaints department' it seems it dilutes this portion of the forum..to be its not 'addition by subtraction' but rather 'subtraction by subtraction'...just my two cents worth (now the mint is gonna stop minting pennies..this may be the only place I still get my two cents worth...hate to round that up or down). Have a great weekend folks

"Smoke" is such a dirty word. I prefer to call it a fragrance...the sweet smell of nitrous compounds...dancing in your nostrils. LOL

We usually have between 20 -25 members check in on a daily basis. I guess those 20 - 25 are just not all that talkative! LOL

I stopped posting the "Today in History" because I thought people were starting to get bored - and there was seldom a response.

Any suggestions as to what topics are of interest to our present membership? Anyone?

OK we all like some kind of a response if we start a thread my self included. The response doesn't have to be long just some kind of acknowledgment of 1 or 2 words to me would be fine even a some kind of smiley face would do.

Almost reluctant to bring up the name of "Hector" but that was one of his credos - that there should be no "orphan posts" - i.e. - no one should post without getting a response.

Makes sense here, that if what we're trying to do is "converse", then there should always be an answer, in order to create a "conversation".

Change in the weather has thrown everybody for a loop retired has come out of the burning world . Is "rock" referring to rock bass?

Is that the standard way that crew is paid? - a percentage of the catch, rather than wages?

And where ARE those smelt now? They used to come in to the beach at Turkey Point - they haven't made that trek in years!!!!

# 10 banjo was what was the alum shovel used to shovel smelts on a Port Dover fish tug , Always got payed by % of catch . Boat and owner got 55-60% . Number of crew split the rest . And 20000 tons of rock refers to anybody crazy enough to work on the lakers or also refered to as floating dump trucks. Or floating factorys . How exciting carrying a load of rock or coal around . THX but no THX

And lastly the smelts are now spawning out in the deeper water and not on the beach anymore
