Crosswalks in Simcoe Empty Crosswalks in Simcoe

Post by Ruby Tuesday Sun Apr 27, 2014 7:07 am

This week there was an issue brought forward to council that the cobblestone crosswalks in the downtown core case issues with mobility. IE, walkers, wheelchairs.

We are now planning to remove the cobblestone section and replacing it with normal pavement. $20,000 is the current projected price tag.

What is your opinion on this? Would you, or would you not approve the request to do this?

Interesting, one comment from a councillor was that he hasn't heard ANY complaints and yet another just the opposite. IMO, one should try crossing over the cobblestones with crutches, wheelchair, walker, etc and then state if the cobblestones are an issue or not.

I can see it being hard for the people with handicaps to use those uneven sections of road but I would think there would be a cheaper way to smooth them out.

At least its consistent. Lot worse up heaved side walk slaps around town, the hall way at the Simcoe town Mall is cobblestone.

Might as well make Norfolk County's tagline "We literally burn money." Becuase that is pretty much what they are doing with the crosswalks. Could they not smooth them over for a lot less than removing them?
