Re: downtown's crosswalks !
Initially when I read the headlines, my response was "Oh no...they looks so appealing" but after reading the article, I fully understand why they should be removed. I wonder if regular cement could be tinted to take away from the coldness of the gray and make the crosswalks more appealing and 'quaint"?

Re: downtown's crosswalks !
yes that would be a cheaper fix than excavating etc.
and something else i thought about was mr.black saying he was a contributor to the installation of the walkways.
as they (the bia) never requested any input from the disabled prior to installing them, shouldn't the bia help with the costs of rectfying the problem, rather than have the taxpayers fix it again?
or maybe i expect to much ?

Re: downtown's crosswalks !
The crosswalks are tinted cement, same as on the corners. Just with an added cobblestone effect. I walked over them today and they are not super bumpy or rough so not sure why people are having issues using them. Maybe they can be ground down smoother rather than ripped up and replaced?
Re: downtown's crosswalks !
i'm not sure what people riding scooters think,or feel when crossing them, but i know to me in my chair they certainly are rough and my fil using a walker has a struggle going across them. and i don't think anyone using crutches or a cane find them very nice either.
i know they have the same type surface in the downtown mall, and because of that i do not go there as often as i would if it had smooth walkways !

I think that they look terrific, however, I can see how the stamped impressions would or could cause problems.
Anyone ever try pushing a shopping cart inside the town centre mall? Let's just say that you wouldn't be able to sneak up on anyone if you were.

Funny isn't it, how yesterday's great idea becomes today's "insensitivity"?

Re: downtown's crosswalks !
and strange how some good ideas are discarded.
in ohio a brick manufacturer developed a type of sidewalk (walkway)brick with raised braille bumps on it telling blind people when nearing steps,or doorways,or curbs etc. that when i seen them displayed in there office, i thought were fantastic.
so i took a couple of flyers describing them and left one in brantfordand one in milton, atthe blind schools, plus at some ontario brick yards.
a few months laterwhile delivering in milto,i stopped in at the blind school and asked if they got any feed back on the flyers, and the manager in the office said they had shown them to the local town works departments and coucilors and were old they don't buy such un-necessary junk as it is just a waste of money !
good answer !
