bc judge say's assisted suicide should be allowed !
the BC supreme court yesterday struck down the assisted suicide ban, declaring the law invalid !
i think this should be allowed,as i see a lot of people here at nhnh being kept alive, beyond what is a normal life span only to be forgotten by family and friends (?) and some curled into the fetal position, unable to communicate, show emotin, even control normal body functions !
am i the only person who wants to die with dignity ?
here is a link to an editorial on the subject !

Ditto.
Nowadays it seems like it is all about making life as long as possible no matter what shape you are in. Why would I want to live to be 100 if I can't walk or talk, don't know my family, and sit drooling in a corner? That is not living.

I agree with all of the above. HOWEVER, I do not believe in the DNR protocol. If I am, for example only, 65, am ill and in the hospital, with the DNSR order, not only will I be ignored, I will be placed BEYOND last of care from the hospital staff. I have told those close to me that if there is no quality of life, then they have my permission not to exhaust artificial life support. But please don't give up if I'm young enough to recuperate. Now if I'm 90, that's another story.

:I'm sorry:
i agree with the DNR system,or protocol.
i feel that as i have already become a burden to my family if anything happens in the future, i don't wish to become an even greater burden.
and personally if i had known of the consequences of my having a stroke i would have taken action prior to having it, therebye never being around to have had it.
i have since given my death a lot of thought, and have aranged for my body being cremated, and my headstone to be inscribed with all normal information as well as a line saying this man loved his family, friends, and work.
i try to remain upbeat as the days go by but i find it very hard to be a bystander.
i much prefer the alternative.
