It does give you cause to wonder
This afternoon, at the Canada Trust plaza in Delhi, there were 3 OPP cars pulled up in almost a semi-circle. In the midst of these 6 patrolmen, was a 40ish man, leaning against one of the cars.
One of the merchants told me that the guy had been going into businesses, seemingly soliciting money - with a "tragedy in the family" kind of story; and apparently one of the merchants called in the OPP.
The 3 vehicles with 6 policemen were there for over 1/2 hour - while I was still in the vicinity. I don't know how much longer they stayed around.
Is it just me? - or does that not seem like overkill for one unarmed possible shyster - for that length of time? Do you suppose it became some kind of training exercise? Why else would 6 cops have to stay on site for so long for such a non-dangerous, POSSIBLE offense?

Maybe, because of the close proximity of the bank, they thought it may have been a repeat of what happened here in simcoe at the cibc a few months ago.

How generous of you, Mario - to see the "other side".

Better safe than sorry. Does it really matter how many officers were there, considering all the unknown factors?
LOL But I have to say, about 20 years ago, about 10 PM one night, I found myself surrounded by four police cars with officers out of their cars in a split second, crouched down behind the car doors, weapons drawn. ME! Then I did say it was overkill!!

It's a long story, but in a nutshell, mistaken identity! I was reported as a possible break and enter person, at night. When I think back, it really was a funny situation. At the time I was shocked!

Re: It does give you cause to wonder
i thought it was just me thinking we were over policed !
like the deal this week about wearing seat belts !
the way i read it was 380 people killed in accidents and 320 wearing seat belts and 60 not wearing seat belts.
(not positive about the #s)SO YOU SHOULD START BUCKLING UP YOUR SEAT BELTS !
but i sort of think that there were more killed wearing their seatbelts than there were not wearing them !
so i think the way i read it that less were killed when not wearing them !
so what do you think !

I think the issue issue when they go out to calls like the Delhi one is that they have to go in prepared for the worst. Meaning perhaps coming up against weapons, drugs, mental issues, etc.
I just have a difficult time condemning their actions when I don't do their job, nor could I, nor do I want to. Plus, I've always had favorable responses whenever I've needed them in the past. I also know how important they are in today's society to help us keep whatever law system we have left in order as best they can.
Also, it's understood now that they have a never ending stream of reports and paperwork to complete, even for the smallest issues! They need to have above average documentation skills and take every report seriously, as it may be one of the few things available to refer to in a courtroom.
