Ever hear of ...
Seems as though they have become the party about to defeat Alberta's decades long in power Conservatives.
Things are a-changin' out there. NDP as official opposition. Progressive Conservatives exist no longer at the federal level - they are now Reform/Conservatives. The Federal Liberal party is dying.
Will it actually make much difference?

My Calgarian friend is very worried about the Wild Rose party. So much so, that his career in fraud (as is catching the bad guys) will come to an end. He and his family are seriously thinking about relocating to another province.

There's an excellent article today in the Globe and Mail on Danielle Smith, leader of the Wild Rose Party. She's not a flash in the pan, but a clear-thinking conservative-minded person, and Albertans are choosing to deny the traditional conservatives their new tendency to drift left. Albertans know what they want and liberalism isn't it. It should be a very interesting election.

From my Calgary friend:
Let's have a look at some of the Wildrose's star candidates. All Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock candidate Link Byfield is the former publisher of the right-wing Alberta Report magazine. As has been noted elsewhere, Mr. Byfield was the president of the founder of the Citizens Centre for Freedom and Democracy, which stands, among other things, "against expanding influence of the Charter of Rights."
Calgary-Lougheed candidate John Carpay penned an opinion-editorial in the National Post in 1994 which criticized Premier Ralph Klein for not invoking the Notwithstanding Clause to block the Supreme Court decision forcing Alberta to include protection of homosexuals from discrimination.
Calgary-Greenway Wildrose candidate and evangelical pastor Ron Leech penned an article in the Calgary Herald in 2004 which argued "to affirm homosexuality is to distort the image of God, to insult the nature and being of God."
Edmonton-Glenora candidate Don Koziak's short-lived mayoral bid in 2010 was kicked off by a promise to halt LRT expansion, calling the public transit "enormously environmentally unfriendly." When asked what he would do differently, Mr. Koziak trumpeted the construction of more "interchanges and wider roads."
Edmonton-Castle Downs candidate John Oplanich, kicked off his campaign by offering to raffle a free big screen televisionto voters who would support him.
Calgary-West candidate Andrew Constantinidis…served as Mr. Anders' local constituency president and media coordinator during the 2011 federal election. (Azawalli's comment: this is the Rob Anders who can't stay awake in Parliament and calls veterans "Communists").

Re: Ever hear of ...
well ralph may have made a few errors,(like the one quoted) but for a gent who went from a blue collar background to radio announcer to mayor of calgary, to mpp,to premierr of alberta, and who turned down the chance to run for p/c leader federally, he sure done more than his share of the work for alberta and canada.
and since retirement the pc's in alberta have went into complete disaray, that is how the rose party came into being !

Looks like Albertans weren't inclined to elect the Wild Rose party after all!
There were some pretty extreme statements made by some of the candidates for that party. Sounded a bit scary!

There could be an increase of followers, you newer know. I suspect this will happen but not sure if the NDP could win the next election.

Re: Ever hear of ...
In today's news, the big issue is how the pollsters could have been so wrong in their predictions about the election in Alberta.
There's some speculation that the "anybody but" concept might have come into play - and those that might normally have voted Liberal or NDP voted Conservative in order to make sure the Wild Rose guys didn't win.

And, who knows, maybe the pollsters predicting such a good turn out for the Wild Roses persuaded people that they had to do what they could to stop that trend.

Re: Ever hear of ...
There was a lot of support and help from the Harper people for the wild Rose side.
The Wild Rose party appeals to the hearts of the Reform Party members sitting in Ottawa forced to cloak themselves in the PC mantle.
A good day for Albertans.

Re: Ever hear of ...
Apparently, the Wild Rose Campaign had a policy that no one on the campaign could talk about winning, because to do so, according to history, would cause voters to back away their support. I guess the media did this for them. I agree, Observer, the media is the message.
