About time. This half legal half illegal was for the birds. If it is controlled like other business there should be no problems. Let the goood times roll

Re: Ban on Brothels lifted in Ontario
This whole hypocritical issue about the sex trade is a little like the hypocritical way that Ontario treats liquor laws. So much of these laws stem back to the "Ontario the Good" ("Toronto the Good" is what really sticks in my mind as a somewhat slogan from years ago)
There was a time that it was illegal to buy an Irish sweepstakes ticket - and NOW - we have the governments sponsoring gambling. One would think that they haven't figured out a means to make more money from legalized brothels than from the fines they impose for prostitution - and thus, there's not enough money in modernizing outlooks to risk the loss of votes!
Similarily with the liquor laws: there's probably more money to be made in issuing fines for archaic laws about "alcohol out of residence" than there is in reforming nonsensical rules!

Re: Ban on Brothels lifted in Ontario
This change is a result of the Picton case in BC. Sex workers did not have a safe place to conduct business and were forced onto the streets where they were taken and killed.
Sex workers have been around since day one, and are not going away soon.
That's why I don't get the old "The Sky is Falling" song and dance over this.
Sex workers are part of our life, why not let them work more safely?

But then, there are people who say what we should be doing is offering the sex workers an alternative work opportunity - and get them out of the trade; a trade that some consider degrading to women.
Sometimes, I think it's even more degrading to men! ... men who must PAY for sex, because, presumably, they can't get it otherwise!
