Recession on the way?

Post by observer on Thu Jan 15, 2015 10:52 pm

Does the drop in oil prices - and the drop in the value of the Canadian dollar - indicate that we are on the brink of another recession, do you think?

Nope, my personal short term thoughts on this subject are that the greedy just might have to live on less.

It doesn't work that way, only the people with less will have to do with less

That's the prediction in Alberta, and possibly in Canada. Lots of lost revenue. Alberta's thinking about more provincial taxes.

Hmm..I read that AB is already in a recession and Ontario isn't far behind.  Here in FL many folks are very concerned about the plummeting gas prices, even though in the short term everyone loves the savings when they fill up their vehicle.
The falling gas prices really have everyone worried. That being said, it would be nice not to spend several hundreds of dollars to fill up out boat.  We are taking a couple of boat cruising holidays this summer, much to hubby's delight.

We are really noticing the cost difference in filling up our vehicles lately. From my boating experiences in the past, marinas were typically priced higher than regular vehicle stations. Boats aren't exactly the most fuel efficient either, so the lower prices might stimulate more boating this summer around here this summer. After such a shoddy summer last year I'm sure the businesses at the lake would love that. their revenue must have been down in 2014.

Last season in Ontario we paid $1.55 for litre, the first increase in five years. Previously $1.40

Right now, I'm loving the gas prices here in Florida. Yesterdays price was $1.95 a gallon (US gallon of course) but I also accrue points from my grocery store so I ended up paying $1.35!! The flip side of that of course
is my deflated Canadian dollar which I have to exchange to ship funds south. That hurt!
