Hostage taking in Australia Empty Hostage taking in Australia

It's Monday morning in Sydney - and it seems an unknown criminal has taken hostages in a chocolate café there. All they know at this point is that there was an Islamic flag hung in the window.

No reason to suppose that they TOO didn't receive one of those exhortations from ISIS to "do what you can to harm the infidels"

I'm sure all have heard it's over - and the police stormed. Ended up with 3 dead - including the perpetrator.

Sad!!!

Criminal charges for sexual assault were some of the charges the perpetrator had. But, apparently, he'd decided to pledge some allegiance to ISIS as well. In other words - a crazy guy - who found himself a "cause". He's dead. No problem. But 2 others are also!!!

#illridewithyou: hashtag offers solidarity with Sydney's Muslims after siege

After concerns that people wearing Islamic dress could be harassed, Sydney locals have been using Twitter to offer to travel with them

My husband seems to think that the assault was poorly handled - too much hesitation - and since the guy had a shotgun - the stun noisy stuff they sent in was probably unnecessary. Or something like that.

Oh wow! Am hearing now that the guy who took the hostages was out on bail - after being charged with the murder of his ex-wife - having set her on fire!!!

I think sometimes these benevolent democracies we live in have more concern for the "rights" of the criminals than the protection of the "innocents" out on the streets.

Yes, we're too damned worried about human rights and not public safety.

Only problem is always if somehow that "human rights issue" ends up affecting YOU. Then - you are grateful it's there.

Australia is again in a bit of a turmoil. 8 children found dead in one house. 7 of them were identified as children of a 37 year old woman, who is currently the prime suspect in their deaths. They were found by a 20 year old son!

Woman was 17 with her first child and then had at least 7 more. And there's been no mention of a father at this point. Kids were between under a year to 15. Sounds to ME as tho she was used as some kind of breeding machine! BUT - to kill children - your own at that???? Not that they've proved that- but seems likely.

I just read about this on CBC news tonight, absolutely terrible. I cannot imagine any one person's psychotic state to be able to commit murder, never mind murder of a child ... Or multiple children. And your own to boot!
