Mumps in the NHL Empty Mumps in the NHL

One young NHLer was quoted tonight as saying "I've never heard of mumps before".

It seems the NHL has been "touched" by this highly contagious virus. Some concerns that Sydney Crosby MAY be affected.

Seems to me I recall mumps being a cause of sterility in men???

I did see Sydney .crosby on TV the other night. Definately has a swollen face. Mumps seems to be the word, but I have difficulites believing anything on tv anymore, never mind the
Internet!

The MMR vaccine is an immunization vaccine against measles, mumps, and rubella (also called German measles). It is a mixture of live attenuated viruses of the three diseases, administered via injection - from Wikipedia

I THOUGHT there was a vaccine for that. It's been quite a long time since you've heard of people having the mumps. So - were all these young NHLers not inoculated?

Word is that Cosby was given a booster before he went to play in the Olympics in Russia. So - it seems the vaccine isn't as effective as one would have thought.

When did YOU last have a booster shot? Are we supposed to continue getting them for the rest of our lives?

I know. I'm not sure either! Just read that Crosby had had one - and still got the mumps! I have a vague recollection that the kids were to have those boosters - BUT don't remember when that need for boosters supposedly "expired"

It's also being said that it was one of the diseases that was supposedly "eradicated" - because everybody had been inoculated against it. So - some stopped getting the inoculations - and guess what? Here it is again!
