It sure was windy earlier in the day. Winds were at 54 km/hour as we attempted to dock our boat after being in town for the morning. Not a chance we could complete our attempt and so retreated to the back bay area where the water barely broke into a ripple. Then about 4 the rain started. Acorns pinged all around. Is this Mother Nature's revenge for several days of beautiful weather we missed all summer?

Was in touch with a friend at Erieau who just had her breakwall repaired last week, but today had to contend with a flooded out back yard and driveway, and was putting sandbags at the side door to try and keep the water out. When they tried to enter through the patio doors, a giant wave came over the breakwall and drenched them and the room they were going to enter too. It must have been pretty wild!

South of Blenheim and west of Rondeau, right on Lake Erie.

What you describe would be a bit scary, wouldn't it? And thanks for the geography lesson.

This friend has had a terrible summer trying to have repairs made to her breakwall but unable to get the necessary permits from MNR until she was almost forced to evacuate her home during a storm that flooded out her property. Those very expensive repairs were finally completed just over a week ago and now that repair crew will be coming back to install additional drainage when things dry up. She had dirt leveled and grass seed planted after the breakwall repair but that has all been washed away. Its back to square one. I'm hoping that the winds don't come out of the south with such force as they did yesterday.

I feel for your friend. Once was bad enough but two? Oh my. Does insurance cover this?

Unfortunately not. The forecast is for more winds from the west/southwest so her trials are not over yet. She emailed me some pics she took and if I was in her position I'd be crying in my beer and so totally discouraged and depressed.

I agree with you GF. I'm not sure how strong I could be under your friend's circumstances. Mother Nature can be brutal. Not only does she not carry insurance, companies are afraid of her!

The high winds are back today. Not a chance we could consider leaving the island for any reason. Docking would be impossible. A good day to catch up with online stuff, read a book, have a nap, whatever my little ole heart pleases!
On another note, I baked a strawberry rhubarb pie from fruit I had frozen earlier in the season. The rhubarb is so tough, like rubber. What did I do wrong?

A few minutes ago there was a huge gust of wind and a slight change of direction that made my hubby sit up and take notice. He's usually oblivious of such things when he's focussed on a tv show. Sure hope our power stays on!

This morning was a 'fair' day. We boated our cabin cruise to the yacht club (about 20 boating minutes away) for winter storage. It was warm enough inside the canvassed area, so my hubby says. I drove the car to the club to be there for his ride back to the island. Light winds, somewhat overcast and by noon it began to rain. We met great friends in Lakefield for lunch. A great day!!! These friends have been plagued with one bad turn after another this season, including a nasty bike fall when her bike hit tree roots on a trail. (Yes, wearing a helmet but that didn't help her shoulder that took the brunt of her fall.) The season is coming to an end. Mother Nature is reminding us of this every day. However, the weekend, thus far, has a forecast of lovely weather and we are so looking forward to this. A perfect opportunity to get into the water to bring in our boat lift. Wait...perfect for hubby with a wet suit. I only have waders. Not a chance I will venture in. Water temperature about 60 degrees.

Getting into the water does NOT sound like a very appealing venture to me either!

It was such a beeeeautiful day, perfect for bringing in the dock extensions or the boat lift, or so I thought. Hubby didn't feel like it today. I know what he's waiting for and I say this TIC, a bad day!!!
